Announcing: “Associate Intel” Meetup
I’m excited to announce that a friend (a former S&C litigator) and I are launching a Meetup for law students and firm associates in New York called “Associate Intel: How to Survive and Succeed at a Law Firm.”
The full description of the Meetup is below, but, in sum, the point of the Meetup—similar to what we do here at B&B—is to start conversations around key aspects of law firm life and the associate experience, and to help share candid, practical advice on how to succeed at firms with those who need it most.
In anticipation of the summer start dates, our first meeting will feature an AMA for law students (“Biglaw-Bound? Ask Anything!”) heading to firms for the first time this summer to provide them with opportunity to ask all the questions on their mind (which, in our past experience, are likely multiplying rapidly right about now).
We’ve love for you to join us and add your voice to the conversation. Please join the Meetup and help us spread the word!
Associate Intel: How to Survive and Succeed at a Law Firm
Wondering what life at a large law firm is really like and what it takes to succeed? At a firm and wanting to set yourself apart and become that go-to, rock-star associate? Considering long-term goals and want to ensure you are taking the right steps to set yourself up for success?
You’ve got questions; we’ve got answers.
“Associate Intel” is a meetup organized by two former senior associates (one corporate, one litigation) from top firms (Davis Polk and Sullivan & Cromwell) to demystify law firm life for law students and help current associates excel in their roles. We want to help you confidently achieve your career goals—at the firm and beyond—by offering candid, practical advice on key aspects of associate success. Through an informal, interactive format (combining presentations, panels, exercises, and lots of Q&A), we’ll start conversations around the key tips and tricks of the trade you need to know most.
Our first meeting will focus especially on helping this year’s summer associates hit the ground running and make the most of their summer experience. But our themes focus on being the most effective associate possible, so all sessions will have plenty to offer full-time associates. First up: “Biglaw-Bound? Ask Anything!” where you’ll get candid answers in response to whatever’s on your mind as you begin the law-firm journey.
Other sessions will cover a variety of topics, such as:
- How to tackle your first assignments;
- The qualities of an effective associate;
- Strategic assignment selection (during your summer and beyond);
- Navigating conflicts between work and your personal life (and other thorny issues); and
- Making the most of the summer’s opportunities to begin building your personal network within the firm.
(And your questions on anything are always welcome.)
We look forward to having you as part of our community!
